At PACE Optometry, we provide comprehensive, on-site eye care by deploying a fully portable diagnostic suite that replicates the functionality of a traditional exam room. This portability allows us to serve wheelchair-bound patients, individuals with limited mobility, and those with cognitive impairment, reducing barriers to essential vision care.
Our approach integrates both time-tested diagnostic techniques and modern advancements in technology. Using retinoscopes, handheld slit lamps, binocular indirect ophthalmoscopes, and rebound tonometers, we perform objective, thorough evaluations of ocular health. These methods enable us to accurately prescribe corrective lenses and diagnose eye conditions—even in patients who may be unable to provide subjective responses.
By combining clinical precision with mobility, we enhance access to high-quality eye care and improve patient outcomes across diverse care settings.
We use a binocular indirect ophthalmoscope to obtain a wide, detailed view of the retina and optic nerve. This allows us to detect sight-threatening conditions such as retinal tears, diabetic retinopathy, or glaucoma—even in challenging exam environments.
Our handheld slit lamp provides a close-up, magnified view of the front structures of the eye (cornea, lens, iris, eyelids). This helps us diagnose conditions like cataracts, dry eye, corneal disease, and ocular surface disorders with precision.
We use a rebound tonometer to measure intraocular pressure (IOP)—a critical factor in detecting and managing glaucoma. Because it works in both upright and supine positions, it’s ideal for patients who are bedbound or have mobility limitations.
With a retinoscope and skiascopy racks, we objectively measure a patient’s refractive error to determine their glasses prescription. This method is especially valuable for patients who cannot verbally communicate or provide reliable subjective responses.
A portable lensometer lets us measure the current prescription in a patient’s glasses on site. This helps us track prescription changes over time and ensure new lenses are updated accurately.
Our LEA charts use specially designed symbols and optotypes to test vision in patients who may be nonverbal or cognitively impaired. This allows us to obtain accurate visual acuity feedback from children, seniors, and patients with dementia.
On-site optometry services make eye care easier for seniors in assisted living communities. Learn how mobile eye exams improve access, safety, and quality of life.
As we age, our eyes—like the rest of our body—undergo natural changes. While some vision changes are a normal part of getting older, others may signal more serious eye health issues. That’s why regular eye exams are an essential part of maintaining overall health and quality of life for seniors.
Through regular eye examinations, lifestyle modifications, and proactive management of systemic health, older adults can protect their vision and maintain independence.
